Homecoming is based on real life
Synopsis
Homecoming is based on the true events surrounding the evacuation of over 30,000 Chinese citizens from the Chinese Embassy during a period of political and social unrest in Libya in 2011. the events surrounding the evacuation of more than 30,000 Chinese nationals from the Chinese Embassy during a period of political and social unrest in Libya in 2011. The events take place during a coup in the North African country of Noumea.
this story follows "Zong" (Yi Zhang) and "Cheng Lang" (Curry Wang)
The two work at the Chinese embassy in the war-torn capital when they learn that a group of civilians are stranded in a remote desert area. They are tasked with trying to rescue them and bring them to safety in neighboring Tulisia. The older man has previously been on a rescue mission in a similar operation in Lebanon.
The latest is more enthusiastic but green
Together, they must learn to trust each other while avoiding the dangers that threaten their lives and those of their party in their search for safety. This movie is just too long – over 2¼ hours long – and the story, while quite busy and exciting at times, has more than its fair share of seriousness that robs it of much of its real danger. The young man gives a decent performance as he struggles to tell the truth about their predicament compared to his boss who is much more pragmatic, but somehow the rest of the characterization is straight from the central casting manual – brave, stoic, dedicated – yes, but something is missing souls or personalities.
There also seems to be pretty much unlimited buses and bottled water here
They’re in the middle of a death trap with bombs and bullets everywhere (those effects look pretty authentic too), yet the film itself feels sterile and rather procedural. Conspiracy theorists may like the big brother/satellite surveillance aspect at the end, but otherwise it might as well be a Bruce Willis outing. Worth watching and no worse than some similar Hollywood efforts, but an instantly forgettable mind.
