Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent”
Synopsis
Charles, a retiree, finds a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a retirement home. Says: “The Mole Agent” The documentary is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar, regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, and I would describe that feeling very reductively as, “I have to call my mother, we tried to do that on our show.
Remake of El agente topo (2020)
a similar thing with the tone: does our show fundamentally contribute to this feeling of wanting to call our mothers?”. I am 67 years old and it was wonderful to see so many actors of our generation and their great comedic styles.
These actors only get better with age and are wonderfully portrayed in this sweet comedy series!
The storyline gets a little lost trying to solve the mystery and delves deeper into the characters’ backstories. That’s okay because by the halfway point you have a pretty good idea who the culprit is.
It’s really not a mystery
You don’t mind, it’s not really a mystery because you’re just having fun watching these golden oldies at work and showing off their stuff. Just a tribute to the courage you have to have as an older person while still being active and feeling your way in our youth-oriented society.
Thanks for giving me a great Saturday watching this series!
What a sweet tribute to those who support us and help us navigate the minefields of aging this series is.
